Are you interested in volunteering with Bike Dearborn? There are plenty of ways YOU can choose to help Bike Dearborn succeed!
No bike ability needed – just a belief that better biking helps build stronger communities!
Leadership Team
To keep our wheels turning (pun intended), we also need help with oversight of our organization! If you like to track financial transactions, take notes, manage websites, keep records, or communicate with our supporters and/or subcommittees, consider reaching out to us. No bike ability needed – just a belief that better biking helps build stronger communities!
**Our Leadership Committee meets on the 4th Thursday of the month at 6:30pm via online video conference.
Bike Dearborn is launching four subcommittees to more effectively promote biking as a recreation and transportation norm in Dearborn, Michigan.
All Bike Dearborn committees are made up of local residents and interested parties. Committee members jointly identify meaningful projects and track progress according to an annual work plan they develop.
Meeting times and formats are determined by the committee. One member is designated to report back to the main Bike Dearborn monthly meeting (in person or in writing), though all are welcome to attend. If you care about improving biking in Dearborn, this is a great opportunity to get involved in ways that suit your availability!
- Advocacy Committee (local government, police, policies, etc)
Bike Dearborn’s Advocacy Committee works to develop policies and partnerships to improve bicycling conditions for all ages and abilities in Dearborn. Examples of our work include passage of a local ordinance in 2017 that requires motorists to give bicyclists a 5-foot passing distance and collaboration with other stakeholders to create the Dearborn Multimodal Transportation Plan in 2019. If you have interest or ideas about how to change our transportation system to make riding safer and more comfortable, we’d love for you to join us! - Education/Outreach Committee (safe bike and drive training/PSAs, bike repair clinics, farmers market)
Better cycling policies are only useful if people are actually riding bikes! Research tells us that 50-60% of people are “interested but concerned” about riding their bikes around their communities. The Education and Outreach Committee develops informative print and social media content to increase awareness about the benefits of biking and how to do it safely. They also plan events that help people gain confidence and skills for recreational and purposeful riding. This is a great committee for cycling enthusiasts who love to share their passion and knowledge of cycling with others! - Community Building/Events Committee (ride events)
Are you a social butterfly who gets giddy seeing people happily come together over bikes? If that is you, we hope to hear from you. We are looking to expand our popular Walk n Roll events, First Dozen, and Mayor’s Bike Ride to create more opportunities for social gathering and community fun. As well as running bike parking at non-bike events such as Dearborn Homecoming. Consider participating in this group to plan inviting and engaging events for the seasoned and novice rider alike. - Fundraising Committee
Do you have a knack for getting friends to give back? We’re looking for members that know how to rally the community to raise funds. The funds we raise are used within the community to provide program development within our organization and provide additional tools throughout the community that we’re developing to make cycling a better experience in Dearborn
We’re also always looking for volunteers to help support our events: - Bike Support Crew (Slow Rollin’ Wednesdays and other rides)
- Registration Tables.
- Safety Events.
- Bike Parking Attendants.
- Sag/Sweep Vehicle Support.
- Bicycle Safety Check/Repairs.
- Information Tent events (Farmers Market/GFV Ride)
- Any other future events we may organize or be involved with.
If you are interested in any of these committees or other capacity, fill out the form below and we will add you to our contact list.
Thank you for considering support to Bike Dearborn.
